Human rights apply everywhere.
On Human Rights Day, December 10th: We demand protection and support for children in war zones and crisis areas. The world is currently facing a multitude of armed conflicts, the likes of which have not been seen since the Second World War. Of particular concern is the sharp increase in civilian casualties in recent years; the approximately 520 million children worldwide who are growing up in war zones and crisis areas are especially vulnerable.
To the press releaseYour commitment to children
Every contribution is valuable, whether big or small. Volunteering has a long tradition at Terre des Hommes .
In Germany, numerous active citizens in around 80 locations are currently volunteering with Terre des Hommes for strong children and a just world. Getting started is easy! Everyone can get involved. Become part of a group of like-minded people and stand up for children!
Arrived, but not safe?
The report by Terre des Hommes , in cooperation with the Federal Association of Psychosocial Centers for Refugees and Victims of Torture (BAfF eV), documents the consequences of violence against refugee children for their mental health, their rights, and their participation in Germany. The report provides practical recommendations, particularly for educational and social workers, and offers valuable background information to enable collaborative efforts to improve the safety, protection, and participation of refugee children.
To the reportCOP30: Children's rights at the World Climate Conference
At the 30th World Climate Conference #COP30 in Brazil, we campaigned to ensure that the voices of young people were heard.
Together with 60 youth activists from Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, we have developed demands this year that focus on children's rights, protection, participation and fair financing of, for example, local youth work.
The Terre des Hommes Action Day 2025
Today, almost 50 million children are displaced worldwide—more than ever since World War II. They are fleeing war, violence, persecution, poverty, or natural disasters. Most of these children flee within their homeland or to neighboring countries. Only a small proportion reach Europe.
But as more and more children are forced to leave their homes, safe and legal escape routes are becoming increasingly rare. Instead of offering protection and prospects, many countries are closing their borders and hearts.
More informationReturn agreements and deportations of Syrian refugees
Following his trip to our projects in Syria, our board member Joshua Hofert warns against destabilizing the country through deportations. The situation is far from normal – many parts of Syria are destroyed, and the infrastructure and education system are overwhelmed.
We demand: Instead of return agreements and deportations of Syrian refugees, the international community must provide stronger support for reconstruction than it has so far.
Children's rights organizations are demanding fair climate policies.
The well-being of children must be at the heart of climate policy. This is the demand made by children's rights organizations in Germany to the federal government. It must advocate for this internationally at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil.
Regarding the joint position paperGaza: Solar wells provide drinking water
Even after the ceasefire, the people in the Gaza Strip are suffering greatly: clean water is scarce, and since the destruction of the only power plant, the energy supply has been severely restricted. Our project involves repairing wells and equipping them with solar panels to power more efficient pumps.
More informationUkraine
The children in Ukraine have been living with bombing, destruction, suffering, death and fear for three years. Since Russia expanded its war of aggression to large parts of the state in February 2022, millions of people in the west of the country and in the neighboring European countries have been looking for protection. With our partner organizations in Ukraine, we provide emergency aid and dream aid, set up schools and shelters, help with youth work and integrate internal displaced persons.

Profit does not take precedence over human rights!
Today, the Federal Cabinet approved a draft amendment to the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG). The federal government is thus initiating a legislative change that would undermine urgently needed safeguards for children's rights and environmental protection in the supply chains of German companies.
More informationTerre des Hommes warns of violations of children's rights
The Federal Cabinet plans to approve the draft legislation for implementing the European Asylum Reform Act (CEAS) in Germany today. Terre des Hommes warns that, under certain circumstances, children could also be detained or placed in detention-like facilities in the future. Terre des Hommes sees this as a clear violation of children's rights and, together with migration law experts, is urgently calling for improvements in the upcoming parliamentary process.
More informationHelp for children in Gaza urgently needed
The situation in the Middle East continues to escalate. One of the heaviest humanitarian crises of our time takes place in the Gaza Strip. So far, ongoing fighting has forced at least 1.9 million people to flee. Many were driven repeatedly, some ten times or more often.

The Bundestag is planning cuts in development cooperation and humanitarian aid. This mainly affects people who urgently need support in war and crisis areas. That is why we support Venro and One's appeal.

Destruction of aid projects in the Gaza Strip
Airstrikes destroy a soup kitchen and a school co-funded by Terre des Hommes . We condemn the attacks in the strongest possible terms. Despite the destruction and ongoing violence, we will not cease supporting children and families in need.

Safe access to emergency aid in Gaza - now!
Thousands of people in Gaza risk their lives every day to receive emergency aid – Terre des Hommes and 171 organizations are calling for the protection of the civilian population in a joint appeal.
To the appealA heart for families
The Federal Government plans to suspend family reunification for those who are entitled to subsidiary. That would mean that many refugee families remain separated for an indefinite period. With the "One Heart for Families" campaign, we use Proasyl and Bumf to make a strong sign against it - for the protection of children and the right to family.
